David Bowie - The Jean Genie
Tabbed by Frederic Maquet (f.maquet@ic.ac.uk)

This is an extremely fun song to play. It's quite easy to make it sound quite like
the original. The tab is 90% correct, as I taped this off the radio. Therefore, I'm not quite
sure about the intro (although, it should be that, if I remember correctly),
and I think in the extended version there might be a longer solo (probably based
on E blues),but then again, there might not be one...Enjoy!
Don't forget to drop me a line:

Strung out on lasers and slash-back blazers
Ate all your razors while pulling the waiters
Talking 'bout Monroe while walking on snow white
New York's a go-go, and everything tastes nice,
Poor little greenie...

Jean Genie, lives on his back,
Jean Genie, loves Jimmy's ex,
"It's outrageous", he screams and he bawls,
Jean Genie, let yourself go!
A riff x2
Ohooo
Verse 2:
--------
Sits like an adder, he smiles like a reptile,
She love him, she love him, but just for a short while,
She's scratching the sand, won't let go of his hand,
He says he's a beautician, he sells you nutrition,
Keeps off your dead hair and making a bundle, (<-not sure about lyrics)
Poor little greenie, ooo oohooo
Chorus 2: Same as chorus 1
---------
Verse 3:
--------
He's so simple minded, he can't drive his module,
He bites on the neon and sleeps in a capsule

Here's what someone's (ROCKHEAD) sent me, I don't really understand the tab
but they're basically two strings....I'm sure someone will get it!
Jean Genie's SOLO:
Hi Fred!
> I pulled the tab for Jean Genie for your homepage last night and
> I found it to be as you say 90% accurate.
> I sat down this morning and figured out the very cool Mick
> Ronson solo, God bless and rest his soul. Another great guitarist taken
> away from us too early to that "Great Gig In The Sky."
> Anyway the solo starts at 2:19 and goes as follows;
>
> The Jean Genie by David Bowie
>
> 3sl.3 2 1 2~ 2sl.2 2 3 2 2 3^2 3~3~ 3sl.3///3/// 3sl.3 2 2^1

> 3 2 1,2 3,^ 2
> 14 12 12 14, 15 go to E5 chord and then to chorus.

> That's pretty much it, on the 15th note where Mick slides up
> from the b to the d on to the e he's strumming the b and e string open.
> On the following section he's bending the f# on the second string
> seventh fret with the e open after each bend to a gradual release on the
> f#. He does the same thing in the next section except he adds the b on
> the e string brillant stuff! In the last section of the solo where you
> see more than one string placed together with the note it just means
> that Mick is playing those notes at the same time.
> You probably have never seen music tabbed this way before but
> it's how I have always done it. Just remember that the top number is the
> string and the number or numbers underneath or the frets. Good Luck and
> have fun!
> RockHead.....
